Flyfishergirl Launches 1st Product Line!
Since I started this website a few years ago, one of my dreams has been working towards creating a women’s line. I have not completely figured out if it will be waders and boots or if it will be clothing. I am not going to get into the rod and reel market, as there is just no reason to due to the quality products that are available. Plus, i tend to believe that women get shortchanged when purchasing women specific rods, as in my opinion, all they are paying extra for is pretty colored rods and reels.
So, as i wade into the river, looking like a girl most of the time, i wondered what could i create that would be a benefit to all the ladies in the sport? As i put on my chapstick, it hit me…i will start with a makeup line for the serious angler! Don’t laugh, i am serious.
I use my Sally Hansen hard as nails for many things; it is a killer head cement as most people know, i also use it for my nails at the same time as it really does help your nails be stronger, and i also use it to seal small cuts and abrasions when i have run out of crazy glue. I also wear lip chap and lip gloss on a daily basis when on the river, as the wind can certainly wreak havoc on your lips fast in the BC north. And, a little trick that i have learned over the years is that chapstick is the ultimate best cuticle fixer that i have ever used. Use it each and every day and you will always have perfect cuticles. Trust me, this works.
FLYFISHERGIRL is very proud and excited to launch our first product line – makeup for the serious female angler.
To start we are going to launch two products, a nail polish line and a chapstick line. The nail polish has been tested very extensively over the last few months in all sorts of conditions from extreme cold to extreme heat to make sure it is chip resistant.
The nail polish will be available in three select colors for now…

Our Mykissβ’ chapstick line will be in one color, but with many different flavors sure to make your day on the river a little bit extra special, while keeping your lips healthy and protected.
Available in special flavors such as Cherry, Smoked Salmon, and my personal favorite – Smelt.
These products are available on a limited time offer, so hurry and get yours today! Not only are these products functional, they are very aesthetically pleasing as well. We would not endorse any product that we thought was less than a 100% quality item.
Happy April Fool’s Day!!!
If You Could Fish Anywhere In The World…
I have been hanging out, fishing, and of course – chatting fishing, with K8 Taylor for the last few days, and we decided that we Steelhead fish too much (if there is such a thing), and that we need to do some trips elsewhere in the world.
Sounds great right?
Problem is, we can’t decide where to go. So, i am looking for a little advice. Where should we go, and what should we fish for? Bones in the Bahamas? Roosters in Baja? Iceland for Atlantic’s? An epic backpacking trout trip through Mendoza?
Or, keep it simple and stick with the Steelhead addiction?
And help/feedback is totally appreciated.
What Constitutes As Fly Fishing?
Wikipedia describes it as…
In fly fishing, fish are caught by using artificial flies that are cast with a fly rod and a fly line. The fly line (today, almost always coated with plastic) is heavy enough in order to send the fly to the target. This is one of the main differences between spinner and bait rods, which use heavy weight on the line to cast lures, bait, etc. Artificial flies can vary dramatically in all morphological characteristics (size, weight, colour, etc.).
Artificial flies are created by tying hair, fur, feathers, or other materials, both natural and synthetic, onto a hook with thread. The first flies were tied with natural materials, but synthetic materials are now very popular and prevalent. The flies are tied in sizes, colours and patterns to match local terrestrial and aquatic insects, baitfish, or other prey attractive to the target fish species.
Sounds good to me.
Yes, synthetic materials are the norm now, and are in many cases a great advancement in angling and fly tying, both from a price and a usability point. However, i am wondering where you draw the line in regard to using synthetic materials and then labeling the finished products as ‘flies’.

What constitutes as a lure and what constitutes as a fly? What would you deem this monstrosity as? Fly or Lure?
And most importantly, would you fish it?
Rogue Angel Rosie

This one is for you K8!
Rosie (named after the run she lives in – The Rose) is the female version of Walter and for the last few years I have had the opportunity to greet her once per season, at least. However, this season will be different as her pool has changed dramatically, thus I don’t think i will meet her again as her holding water is not there anymore. I have the feeling she will be feeding in different pools nearby, and perhaps, in a completely different area of the river.
She is your ‘normal’ wild rainbow – silver, sleek and a powerhouse leaping into the air. However, what makes her different from others is she is not long and lean. She is short and fat – perhaps not the nicest description, but it is true. She is a little tank, built for power. She hits just as hard as any Steelhead, and when caught (2nd photo) on an #8, puts a serious bend in the rod.
She is not the largest rainbow I will ever see, however she mystifies me. I am transfixed by her beauty and her girth, and I will be forever grateful I have had the pleasure to meet her.
Walter Hit A Klinkhammer

There are two Rainbow on my home waters that i know very well. Both have lived in the same locations for a few years, and each season i can hang my hat on at least one encounter with each of them. I had the pleasure of meeting Walter again a couple of days ago.
Steve and I did some trouting for the afternoon, as as we hiked up the trail to ‘The Lunch Pool’, i chatted about Walter, and explained where he liked to lie and his preference for dries over nymphs. Steve is from the UK and a fabulous tier, using ONLY his own flies. He tied on a Klinkhammer, and on the first cast into Walter’s digs, we met again.
I can tell it is Walter due to a large black marking on his right eye. Last summer he had a run in with another fish, and a secondary black mark appeared behind his right eye, so there is no mistaking him in any way. Rosie, on the other hand, does not have any markings, but her massive girth gives her away every time.
I like to name resident fish. It gives me something to look forward too, as greeting old friends with respect never gets old. Mind you, i am pretty sure Walter has some choice words for me. Am i the only weirdo who has pet fish? C’mon, i can’t be! Someone else out there must have a Brutus too…
Pickin’ your pocket
Pictured above, the wader pocket contents of one of our good friends and fellow guide, R. I see a Werther’s Original candy wrapper, some cigarette butts (errrm, smoking is bad for you, ok kids?), a chunk of mono and a miscellaneous fly. Hey, that’s my fly!
Right now, what’s in your wader pockets? After surfing through mine i came up with…Blistex, Excel cinnamon gum, 2 bearbanger pens (found one that someone dropped on the trail) and 3 cartridges, a lighter, trout forceps, a chunk of bright pink yarn, gink, 18 inches of 8.4 lb mono, and a small metal wedge.
I always believed that the state of your house and car can give a lot of insight into your character. But, what about your waders? Do they tell a story?
Not sure what is said about me, but i do have to go fix an axe later.
Shhh, don’t tell Simms & Sage

At the lodge, i am always moving gear around. Pack boots downriver, then back up. Move waders all around, make sure clients have demo rods and reels here, there and everywhere. Organize tips, lines and leaders, and make sure they are with the appropriate rods!
Now, how do we get them all there in style? In a wheelbarrow of course! Not near as exciting as you thought eh?
In all seriousness, thanks very much to Simms & Sage for providing us with demo gear. Everything looks much better in their respective demo buildings – i promise!
What does your flybox look like?
Is this your flybox? Are you neat or messy with your flybox? Is this even messy? Or just normal?
I tend to be compulsively neat with mine, and once organized my trout box for 5 hours on the drive to Cali (don’t worry, i wasn’t driving). Honestly, both by color and size. Yes, too much time on my hands.
So, tell me…is this a rats nest of a flybox? Or, am i just a neat freak?
Fishing Girl Game

The fishing version of Frogger. You are a girl standing on the shore trying to catch fish. The challenges are casting, luring without getting the wrong size fish, and reeling in without getting eaten by another fish or other sea creature. The player gets coins for catching fish and can spend those coins on new lures and rods… play video
