Rise Fishing needs your help. We have applied for the small business grant thru Chase to help take Rise Fishing to the next level. We need 250 votes to even be considered. We would appreciate it if you could take the time to go to the link provided and search Rise Fishing and vote for us.
P.S. Amanda and Steve are good friends of mine, and who have given me the opportunity to design spey rods for, so I am passionate about Rise Fishing! Please vote and wish us luck!
Jen McElroy and her husband read FFG on a regular basis, and wanted to share Jen’s story.
Jen entered “Dr Oz’s Transformation Nation Million Dollar You” and has advanced from out of 1 million entrants to the final 10.
“I’ve been overweight since I was a teenager. My mom took me to see a nutritionist when I was a freshman in high school—the earliest I remember knowing I had a problem. I have a family history with weight problems, so I just thought that was going to be my life and didn’t pay much attention to it. I tried to diet on my own, but something would stop me and I never really got it together. In July, 2010, weighing in at 382 pounds and battling active Crohn’s disease, I decided to change my life. I joined Weight Watchers and was able to lose some of the weight. Then my sister called me and asked me if I wanted to participate in a 5K. I immediately said yes. In 2011 I walked in six races (four 5Ks, one 9K and one 10K). I feel like having lost this amount of weight is awesome and I can finally live my life rather than watching it go by.”
Jen is a fly fisher girl, and traveled to Alaska for her fly fishing honeymoon.
This week everyone can vote (up to 10 times per day), and please do. If you can vote and pass this on to anyone else willing to take 30 seconds to do the 10 votes per day we fly fisher girls would sincerely appreciate it!

The Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club will present the Jimmy Green Spey-O-Rama, The World Championship of Spey Casting, on April 20-22, 2012, at the world-renowned Golden Gate Park casting ponds in San Francisco.
Spey-O-Rama is a distance casting event using a double-handed fly rod.
Casting for Recovery’s program combines counseling, medical information, and the therapeutic sport of fly-fishing. Our two-and-a-half day retreats are offered at no cost to women at any age and stage of breast cancer treatment and recovery. CFR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. In 2012, CFR is holding 45 retreats in 33 states.
Donate to CFR by pledging a dollar amount based on Mia’s or Marcy’s cast; donations are based on their longest cast, per foot. For example, if their longest cast is 125 feet, a $1/ft. donation would be $125.00. Please help by spreading the word and donating any amount you can give.
For more information contact Mia Sheppard or Marcy Stone. Casting results will be updated on Mia’s blog, Metalheads, and results of the Spey-O-Rama will be posted on April 23, 2012. You will be contacted with following the event via email with information on how to complete your Pledge Payment.
Please give. As women we all know someone who has been the victim of cancer, and all methods of support go towards helping a global cause.
Best of luck gals. Thanks for your effort!

The development of Pebble Mine will adversely affect one of the most prolific salmon fisheries in the world. Sign the petition and help stop this massive destruction.
One of our last wild frontiers is at risk of destruction. Alaska’s Bristol Bay watershed, home to the world’s largest population of sockeye salmon is facing its greatest challenge. Britain’s Anglo American is planning to dig one of the largest mines, Pebble Mine, in the nexus of this pristine ecosystem. The danger lies in the faulty plan to hold back the toxic waste water with an earthen dam, built over shifting tectonic plates (Earthquake zone!). 60 miles of pristine river, holding millions of salmon would be adversely affected. If we let this project proceed then we risk loosing a renewable resource that we cannot afford to part with. There is a great effort going on to protest this potential disaster.
Please join in the crusade to put an end to Pebble Mine. Winner will win a Rise fly rod of their choice and get to choose ANY fly fishing guide that they want to fish with for a day. We will pick up the charter fee for a full day fishing (not exceeding 650.00). Of course, the guide you choose will have their own schedule and you will have to work out all the details with them!
just let us know when you have booked the trip and we will arrange the payment (reminder some guides are booked well in advance and some guides only book week long trips, etc.) all in all we are trying to make it easier for you to enjoy a great days fishing!
So, you’re an avid angler? Take the quiz and prove you know trout. You’ll also be entered in a grand prize drawing to win a dream fishing trip on the Bighorn River in Montana and a great fly fishing gear package from Orvis.
