Beth Hood

Beth Hood, from CrossCurrents fly shop in Helena, Montana recently while fishing for Steelhead in Northern BC. She worked VERY hard on both the Bulkley and Morice rivers for this fish, and got handsomely rewarded – don’t you think? Patience is a virtue!

East Fork Fly Photography

Rich Schaaff is a photographer and fly fisherman living along the banks of the East Fork of the Lewis River in Washington State outside of Portland,Oregon.

He openly acknowledges his over-indulgence in the pursuit of trout and steelhead, but refuses to seek professional help. Instead he bought a Nikon camera which he maintains is his form of therapy on the road to recovery. He feels that taking photographs of some of the nuances of flyfishing and the landscape surrounding it will have residual health benefits.

Rich captures stunning images, and I encourage you to visit his website and view his photography. I especially loved the landscapes gallery.

Jewelry – The ONLY Good Use For A Lure

necklace1

Jay Behrle’s jewelry comes from his love of catch and release angling, specifically for Trout. He is a full-time artist, traveling and exhibiting at art shows in Florida through the winter months, Colorado and Santa Fe, New Mexico during the summer. During the rest of the year, Jay’s innovative Jewelry and artwork can be found in his home area of St. Louis, Missouri

bracelet2 Jay started out designing contemporary metal furniture and custom pieces.

He is now inspired by ancient cultures and relics and creates African and Aztec inspired masks and wall sculptures.

A few years ago, while making his own lures, flies and spinners Jay realized that many fishing lure components could make beautiful jewelry, and from there he started creating imaginative pieces, some of which are shown.

How Bad Do You NEED To Catch A Fish?

Along my post about fishing with a dry or not, how bad do you NEED to catch a fish? What are you willing to do so in order to? Maybe i should rephrase that…how do you angle? Type 8? Teeny? Egg sucking leech? Roe ball leech? Articulated Leech? Egg rig? Indicator? Jig? Gear? (gasp) Bait? (double gasp)

Don’t get me wrong – i have no problems with individual angling methods (ahem!) – each to their own, however i am curious to know the lengths you will go to ensure you get a fish. I tend to focus on Steelhead, as i am like a CD that skips when it come to Steelhead, however, all fish are equal – truly.

What do you do? What are your techniques when you NEED to catch a fish. And, what dictates NEED? Are want and need the same thing in your books? Does it matter to you to land it once you hook it? To you, does that mean you’re a better angler if you land it? Can you fish all day with a dry, not get one, and be happy?

Is it really about numbers?
