Wild Salmon Are Sacred – The Get Out Migration.

We the undersigned stand against the biological threat and commerce of industrial net-pen feedlots using our global oceans. The science is clear these operations risk wild fish populations by intensifying disease, they deplete world fishery resources to make the feed. They privatize ocean spaces and threaten our sovereign rights to food security.

Stop Buying and selling industrial net pen farm fish.

Visit www.salmonaresacred.org and learn about the Get Out Migration April 23 – May 8 where we can make a stand for wild salmon.

A Thank You To Our Members & Readers

A little while ago i made a posting about Reeling & Healing Midwest, which was referred to me by flyfishergirl Kathy Scott of Ardea Bamboo Rods.

After i made the posting, forum member and California trout guide Ariel Levin decided that she wanted to organize a fly donation program on our site, which she arranged to be sponsored by The Fly Stop. Kory, the owner promised to donate extra flies onto each order if mentioned that the flies were via flyfishergirl.com and en route to Reeling & Healing. I don’t want to thread jack this posting, but if you have not checked out The Fly Stop, you really should. Their trout flies are all i have been fishing since i found out about them last spring. Excellent quality for the price (.50+ cents)!

After it was all said and done, the flies shipped off and letters were exchanged and members thanked, i received this email below from Cathy Sero, the president of Reeling & Healing, and i wanted to share it with everyone and personally thank those who participated, as well as give a shoutout to Kathy Scott and Ariel Levin for helping to make other flyfishergirls dreams of angling come true. It is amazing what a positive effect a little generosity has.

Lastly, as mentioned below Reeling & Healing is looking to acquire used fishing shirts to give to their participants, so if you have a fishing shirt(s) that you are not using anymore, have gotten tired of, or don’t like – instead of throwing it away please send it to Reeling & Healing, Att: Cathy Sero @ 1400 North State Pkwy #8A, Chicago, IL 60610. Not only will you be helping a fellow angler out, you will create lasting memories for other ladies and gents in the sport who are battling or have survived cancer.

Just make sure to include your name and contact info when sending in the shits so that Reeling & Healing can personally thank you. A few people did not include contact info when they donated flies, so Cathy was unable to thank everyone.

reeling & healing

Dear Fly Fisher Girl,

We are so grateful to you, your generous readers and Kathy Scott (for suggesting us). Thank you for posting about our organization and suggesting fly donations for our participants. We’ve received some phenomenal flies. We’ll be passing them along to participants next month and throughout our 2010 season. Yippee!

FYI – Another item we’re in search of is the fishing shirt. We’ll take men’s or women’s fishing/guiding/outdoor shirts – be they old, barely used or new (didn’t fit you or the color wasn’t anything you cared for) and find a home on the shoulders of our participants. It may sound strange, but something happens to our novice beginners when they receive a fishing shirt worn or donated by a “real” fly fisher. They love, cherish and wear them constantly. And they feel like a “real” fisher as well. Which is one of our missions – to keep women fly fishing!

Again, thanks so much for writing about us. We promise to slay trout and bass this year in honor of all those of your readers who support us. We’ll send photos to prove it.

All the best and Fish On!

Flyfishergirl Launches 1st Product Line!

Since I started this website a few years ago, one of my dreams has been working towards creating a women’s line. I have not completely figured out if it will be waders and boots or if it will be clothing. I am not going to get into the rod and reel market, as there is just no reason to due to the quality products that are available. Plus, i tend to believe that women get shortchanged when purchasing women specific rods, as in my opinion, all they are paying extra for is pretty colored rods and reels.

So, as i wade into the river, looking like a girl most of the time, i wondered what could i create that would be a benefit to all the ladies in the sport? As i put on my chapstick, it hit me…i will start with a makeup line for the serious angler! Don’t laugh, i am serious.

I use my Sally Hansen hard as nails for many things; it is a killer head cement as most people know, i also use it for my nails at the same time as it really does help your nails be stronger, and i also use it to seal small cuts and abrasions when i have run out of crazy glue. I also wear lip chap and lip gloss on a daily basis when on the river, as the wind can certainly wreak havoc on your lips fast in the BC north. And, a little trick that i have learned over the years is that chapstick is the ultimate best cuticle fixer that i have ever used. Use it each and every day and you will always have perfect cuticles. Trust me, this works.

Nail PolishFLYFISHERGIRL is very proud and excited to launch our first product line – makeup for the serious female angler.

To start we are going to launch two products, a nail polish line and a chapstick line. The nail polish has been tested very extensively over the last few months in all sorts of conditions from extreme cold to extreme heat to make sure it is chip resistant.

The nail polish will be available in three select colors for now…

Nail-Polish-Colors

Our Mykissβ„’ chapstick line will be in one color, but with many different flavors sure to make your day on the river a little bit extra special, while keeping your lips healthy and protected. FFG Chapstick Available in special flavors such as Cherry, Smoked Salmon, and my personal favorite – Smelt.

These products are available on a limited time offer, so hurry and get yours today! Not only are these products functional, they are very aesthetically pleasing as well. We would not endorse any product that we thought was less than a 100% quality item.

Happy April Fool’s Day!!! ;)
