Juliana’s Anglers Annual Fly Fishing School for Women
Juliana’s Anglers is a women’s fly fishing club based in New York City, and on my recent (ish) trip to the apple, I had the pleasure of meeting with Shannon Brightman, the president of Juliana’s, and had the chance to learn about one of the city’s first lady fly fishing clubs.
Rumor has it Dame Juliana, who was a 15th century English nun, is credited with authoring the first book on angling, never mind the first book written by a woman, ever…
The purpose of their club is to encourage all women interested in fly fishing to enjoy the sport with other women by making fishing accessible through education, conservation, planned activities, and events.
They are hosting their annual fly fishing school for women, which will be held May 14th-16th on the campus of the Frost Valley YMCA in the Catskills.
Visit Juliana’s website to learn more about the club, or download the 2010 catalogue of trips to learn about an early June trip timed to the drake hatch on the East Branch of the Delaware; bass fishing on the Susquehanna in July, and the chance to leaf peep and stalk big browns on the Housatonic in September
If you live in or around the NYC area, and are interested in learning how to fly fish, are interested in brushing up on your skills or meeting new friends, i strongly encourage you to give the gals at Juliana’s a call.

Hey, thanks for the plug, Hannah! I hope a visit back to NYC is on your to do list this Spring …. or Summer?
You are totally welcome. I really want to broaden not only the topics on FFG, but also the locale and species, as the east coast has many species that the west coast does not.
Unfortunately, my next visit to NYC won’t be until the same time next year…maybe a little earlier, as i am in the lodge from mid May-early Nov.
Thanks for being a part of our site.
Hi. I’m an oil painter & just recently painted two paintings of fly fisherman/girls & was hooked. I’m looking for photos of people fly fishing for use in my paintings. If you have any photos & would be willing to share them, I would greatly appreciate it. An example of my painting is posted on my blog (Feb.14th posting) if you would like to see it. Thanks & happy fishing. Kelley
