John Day River Women’s Steelhead Fishing Trip

Little Creek Outfitters – Join Mia Sheppard and Patty Reilly for 3 nights and 2 days of fishing for Steelhead on the John Day River.

Running over 280 miles, the John Day River is the second longest free-flowing rivers in the United States. It is protected as a “Wild and Scenic” river under Oregon Scenic Waterways Act. The country is characterized by steep basalt canyon walls, juniper, and sagebrush dotted hills, abandoned homesteads, and petroglyphs. This is one of the most spectacular river corridors in the state with a wild run of summer Steelhead, considered one of the last true wild runs in the state. November is prime time to fly-fish for these incredible fish. Small and intimate with little pressure from other anglers, you will feel you have the river to yourself. This truly is a unique Steelhead experience.

Arrive the evening of November 20th, and fish the 21st and 22nd. Or goal is to introduce you to practical applications for catching summer and winter Steelhead in a fun, friendly environment. We will share our knowledge of Steelhead fishing with you and build your confidence as an independent angler. We stress confidence, enthusiasm, and fun in the outdoors.

Patty Reilly, is a veteran professional fly fishing guide & river runner of 30 years having guided in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Alaska a multitude of seasons in Argentina Patagonia. She has fished numerous North American waters in various locations along with fishing trips to Chile, New Zealand, the Bahamas, Mexico, Belize and Africa. She has been featured in fishing related magazines and articles, ESPN, and recently in Field and Stream and the book Castwork.

We will teach you how to read the water, line management, what flies to use, knots to tie for catching steelhead and how to safely release a wild fish. During the day we will work with you to improve your spey casting techniques. In the evening enjoy dinner, talk about fishing adventures, and make new friend to fish with in the future. Lodging will be in a rustic cabin, on a private ranch with shared room. Enjoy a 360 degree view of wheat fields and an endless horizon. We will fish 6 miles of private water both days.
