Flyfishergirl.com fishing trip?

Postby flyfishergirl on Sun Jul 18, 2010 7:20 pm

A few of us have bounced around this idea before here - lets plan an event where we can all go to, preferably centered around flyfishing, of course. ;)

We have never really discussed whether we would have a DIY package, or a guided one. Lodge or not?

I have been contacted by The Lone Mountain Ranch at http://www.lmranch.com, with an offer to create a package that worked for us.

The package that was offered (with a little feedback from me) included many activities, and suggested we stay at the http://www.lmranch.com/theranch/ridgetoplodge/

I am curious to know what everyone would like to do...meaning, if we were to organize a fishing trip for members of the forum, what would you really like? Where? When? Price range? Guided, or Diy? Etc...

Originally i had wanted to do an extensive poll but there are many limitations for polls in phpbb, and what i really want is a survey, but that means i have to install a modification (mod), and since i generally crash the site when i do that - lets avoid it. ;)

In all seriousness, i am going to create a small poll, and we will go from there. I have an idea how to get around the poll limitation...

Please note :
I have given everyone the right to be able to cast 10 votes, which does not make sense as if you do, i will have no idea as to what you really want to do, however - the reason i did that is because i am not sure exactly how many voting options i should give everyone as the choices are somewhat convoluted. The point being - please choose the answer most appropriate - do not click each question.

Thanks in advance. :D

Ok, i need feedback on this on people. Do we want to do a flyfishergirl.com trip where we all meet up and go fishing? If so, where?

I need some suggestions and help, as i would like to meet a bunch of y'all and want it to be fun.

If left to my own devices we will be fishing (not actually fishing, but sleeping) out of our vehicles for close mouthed Steelhead in -2 with a sideways sleet happening.

Please stop me!...

Hows about a combo trip - some camping out with a couple of lodge days thrown in? About the guided part, it seems like there are enough experienced anglers on this here forum to help out the folks who are just getting started.

Actually kind of like the freezing steelhead bumming idea, personally. With your schedule FFG, would the trip need to be between November and May?

It would be a lot fun to meet some more of the forum members.

A combo trip sounds like a good idea. I like it, thanks for the feedback KJ.

I agree - most likely there is not the need for a guide, but i wanted to throw it out there to see what people had to say.

I hear you on the bumming for Steelies, however - i really don't want to scare any of the members away from ever fishing with us again. Ha ha.

As for my schedule, yes in order for me to attend the trip would have to be between Nov and May.

Should we do trout or steelies? Lakes or rivers (i prefer rivers), WA, OR, or CA? BC?

I happen to know a great area for Steelies in the spring... :D

Or we could do trout in Montana...

Or tiger fish in Mozambique?

Options everywhere...

I don't have any suggestions. I just wanted to say that I would love to fish with the flyfishergirls and boys :D . I just love fishing, so species does not matter to me. And I think that there are enough good fishers to be able to not need a "guided trip". I hope that there will be a fishing trip that I can dream about attending ;) . However, I have driven to the northwest coast numerous times in my life...what an awesome drive :P ...

Thanks for the feedback GM.

So, what i am getting so far is a non guided DIY trip, no one really cares about where and there is no preferred species. :?

Ok, sideways sleet in -2 for B.C. Steelies then?

I can host an event at my house out the Bulkley Valley (5 acres, people can tent or camper it...as well as stay in the house), BC, in 2011, if all is in agreement? Fall is good, but spring is better in my opinon. We could fish out of the west coast (Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert - Smithers rivers are closed due to spawning at that time...) in the spring. For a few different species.

I would say that spring would be much more enjoyable for folks temp wise (fishing is tougher in the spring, but if we do it in May, much good chances), no snow, no -2, and days are longer, etc.

Fresh fish, little pressure on the rivers...

Or, we could choose something else.

Guess what i am asking is does anyone want to contribute in this, or you want me to make the decisions and put it out there as an 'organized' trip'?

I am good either way...

Please note : there would be a surcharge on top of the DIY expenses, due to the fact that i pay for water, electricity and wood (yes, i know - lazy, however after bucking wood for 5 months a year, i welcome someone doing it and dropping it off).

About $150.00 p/p. would be the cost...
I really do not want to go out of pocket for my living expenses for this trip. Love you all, but...help a sister out!!!! ;)

If you want to rant, send me a p.m. :)

You know FFG, that sounds like a great idea, having a DIY get together for the forum. I like the spring steelies idea, always a ton of fun and easier on those who aren't quite that hardcore (yet). BC is always a fun time, but also perhaps a fishery road trip?
I know for certain eastern Oregon during the summer post run-off is a LOT of fun. Of course there are steelhead in the Deschutes basin, as well as the umpqua, the mack etc. But there aren't just steelhead, there are those feisty redband rainbows, smallmouth in the columbia, and a few mountain creeks that are truly some hidden gems in the area. Those are just my feelings, great whether, beautiful area to romp around in, and plenty of options to go fishing all within a reasonable drive of each other.
In either case I'm so in, I just need the dates at least four months in advance so I can put in the leave paperwork and hopefully get approved for it.
...beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand, when liberty is in jeopardy I will always do whats right...
